Q: What is 100,000 Acts of Giving?
A: The program is Mission Hospital’s call to all Orange County residents to demonstrate their Spirit of Giving in their own unique way through a simple act of kindness or good deed. During the coming year and a half, we are seeking to accomplish a total of more than 100,000 combined acts of giving between the hospital and the community.

Q: How does the 100,000 Acts of Giving program work?
A: To help kick-start and capture the Spirit of Giving, Mission Hospital is presenting a series of acts – such as giving a flower to a stranger – as examples of the powerful and uplifting impact that good deeds, no matter how simple or complex, can have on individuals and our community. Community members in turn can log on to spiritofgiving.org and share their own experiences with acts given or received. Through spiritofgiving.org, the community can also check out other personal stories, vote on future acts of giving, and learn about the Spirit of Giving street teams and where they will be next. They can also see which Orange County communities are the most giving and participate in a variety of online community chats, message boards and more.

Q: How are the 100,000 acts counted or quantified?
A: Acts are counted towards the 100,000 total in two ways. One is through actual deeds completed by Mission Hospital’s Spirit of Giving street teams. These are quantified by the number of people receiving an “act”. The other is through the community. Individuals can go online to spiritofgiving.org and post their own act of giving.

Q: What constitutes an “act”? How do people demonstrate their Spirit of Giving?
A: An act can be as simple as a friendly “Hello” to a stranger or as elaborate as volunteering time or giving money to a cause or organization. Most importantly, we distinguish acts as being about good deeds as opposed to giveaways.
